Dear candidate,

Thank you for taking the time to look at these exciting roles at Warwickshire County Council (WCC).

This is an important time for the Council as we are transforming the way we work and deliver our services. To deliver this transformation, we’re looking for high-calibre individuals to join our senior management team. We’ve recently appointed two Strategic Directors: The Strategic Director Resources and Strategic Director Communities.

The Strategic Director Resources leads our legal and democratic, communications, HR / OD, finance, ICT, digital, Commissioning Support Unit, customer service and transactional services teams.

The Strategic Director Communities leads our regeneration, economic development, environment, transport, waste, education services, and fire and rescue teams.

Now we’re searching for four Assistant Directors to join the team:

  • The Assistant Director Environment Services role will focus on the delivery of high performing environment and infrastructure services, both in-house and contracted out.
  • The Assistant Director Education Services will focus on learning, performance, improvement and inclusion, building upon our excellent relationships with our schools.
  • The Assistant Director Enabling Services will focus on key corporate functions that include HR, ICT operations, payroll, pensions, exchequer, facilities management and construction. We see huge potential here to trade many of these services commercially.
  • The Assistant Director People will focus on the commissioning of Adult Social Care and Children and Families. Early intervention will be critical to the success of this role.

As an ambitious council we are working proactively to ensure we are financially sustainable, with increased revenues, that we manage demand effectively and deliver our economic growth priorities. Commissioning is core to our new operating model.

Underpinning this new model is a set of five values; known collectively as “the Warwickshire DNA”, that drives the way we do business, as well as a set of six behaviours that we expect of our colleagues. We have included information about both in this candidate pack and we encourage you to think about how you can demonstrate in your application not only your experience, but also leadership and management capabilities. We will be testing both during the recruitment process.

These are fantastic opportunities to join an innovative and modern county council. We anticipate that we will appoint transformative leaders with experience in large, complex organisations of a similar scale and ambition to WCC. Of course, knowledge and relevant experience of these roles is important but, equally, an ability to demonstrate a mind-set that will give us confidence that you think creatively, implement effectively and behave differently will be integral to the role.

Our people must be able to work collaboratively and have the ability to influence change, both internally and externally, as well as manage strategic partnerships.

If you feel that you are someone with the experience we are seeking and who matches our ambitions to drive Warwickshire County Council forward, we look forward to hearing from you.
